Master Course welcomes 153 international participants

From November 6 to 8, the Master Course was held at the Princess Máxima Center and hosted a record 153 participants from 56 countries. Pediatricians in training and young pediatric oncologists from around the world gained insight into pediatric hemato-oncology, either in person or online.

The Master Course in Pediatric Oncology is organized by the Academy Department of the Princess Máxima Center. Pediatric oncologists Gertjan Kaspers and Lenneke Schrier are the driving forces behind the comprehensive curriculum. This advanced course offers both theoretical and practical content, spans two years and is divided into four modules.

International audience

Lenneke Schrier: ‘This year we had a record number of participants, with an ever-increasing international presence. Our goal is to train this global group in an engaging way. The six-week online pre-course prepares participants well. During the live days, we offer highly interactive elements such as case presentations, workshops, tumor boards, expert sessions, and even a social program.’

Sharing experiences

The Master Course features various (international) speakers who share their expertise and experience. This session focused on Module 4.2: Hemato-Oncology. Lenneke adds: ‘We provide an excellent online environment for virtual participants, allowing them to follow the sessions seamlessly and network effectively. We also offer an extensive online follow-up program. This year, many attendees received scholarships from WHO, St. Jude, and Tabletochki, as well as a record number of grants from the Máxima Center and Princess Máxima Center Foundation. We're expanding internationally: Last year we launched a Master's Course in Latin America (Uruguay), and next year we will begin a regional Master's Course in Armenia.’

Upcoming Master Course modules: module 4.3- Neuro-Oncology, April 23-25, 2025 and module 4.4- Solid Tumors, November 12-14, 2025
