The realization of the Princess Máxima Center for pediatric oncology in Utrecht is an important development in care and research in the field of pediatric oncology. The aim of the Princess Máxima Center is to cure every child with cancer with optimal quality of life. The Máxima Center does this by combining the best levels of care and research in one national pediatric oncology center where the patient is key.

Observership for foreign colleagues

As an international center of excellence, the Princess Máxima Center exerts a great attraction on ambitious professionals. To cure every child with cancer, we need the very best healthcare professionals. And as a top pediatric oncology center, the Máxima Center wants to strengthen its international position. Therefore, we offer the opportunity for international colleagues who, as observers, want to do internships in the clinic, research or other departments of the Princess Máxima Center.

What are the requirements for an observership at the Princess Máxima Center?
  1. Your area of expertise is pediatric oncology and you have completed your specialization, as a pediatric oncologist radiotherapist, surgeon pediatrician in training as a pediatric oncologist (fellow) etc. In doing so, you have at least 3 years of experience in your line of work.
  2. You have a good command of the English language both verbally and in writing
  3. The total duration of an observership at the Princess Máxima Center is a maximum of 3 months but depending on your learning objectives
  4. You will not provide any medical care yourself during the observership, because this is in connection with Dutch BIG registration.
  5. The Princess Máxima Center cannot reimburse flight or accommodation costs. We can advice on accommodation facilities near the center. Contacting the accommodation and making booking arrangements is your own responsibility.

Important detail: a part of the application for an observership is a video call to discuss needs, learning goals and expectations. Only after a video call can an observership be committed or scheduled. In addition there will be a VALIDATA screening before your visit.
